Clean and speed up Windows 10 with the built-in Disk Cleanup utility

Windows can quickly fill up with junk files. For Example, temporary files, as the name suggests are files that are temporarily created for use with certain tasks. When these tasks are complete, these files become redundant. In this article, I will show you how to efficiently use the built-in Windows Disk Cleanup Utility to clean and speed up Windows 10.

The debate on whether cleaning your Windows improves performance rages on. As much as I would like to tell you that a clean Windows runs twice as fast, the truth is that cleaning junk from your computer has more to do with good housekeeping than speed. However, there will be a small increase in performance if you keep your Windows clean. It is a good idea to perform a Cleanup operation regularly to free up needed space and keep your computer running smoothly. Before I blabber on about the Disk Cleanup. Let’s dive into how to use it to clean your Windows PC.

Using the Disk Cleanup Utility

On the Windows Taskbar, click on the Search button and search for Disk Cleanup.

Click on Disk Cleanup app in the search results. This launches the Disk Cleanup Utility and asks you to select the drive you want to clean. Select a drive, and press OK to start.

The Disk Cleanup Utility can also be launched by going into This PC, right-click on the drive you want to clean, and select Properties from the context menu. On the Properties Windows, click on the Disk Cleanup button.

For more options; on the Disk Cleanup window, click on the Clean up system files button.

On the new Disk Cleanup window select the desired cleaning options and press OK.

Finally, read and answer any warning message boxes to start cleaning your Windows PC.

Conclusion

I found that the built-in Windows Disk Cleanup Utility is more than adequate to keep a Windows PC clean from junk. Therefore, there is no need to look for complicated and sometimes expensive programs to keep your computer clean.
